1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website or service may store in your browser or on your device. They can help a website function, remember choices, support a form submission, or understand how visitors use the site.
This Policy explains the cookies and similar technologies used on shackintheback.ca. Some cookies may be set by third-party services that operate parts of the website.
2. Cookie categories used on this website
2.1 Strictly necessary or essential cookies
Essential cookies support functions needed for the website to work, such as basic site operation, submission of the order-request form, and security. These cookies are not gated by the consent banner. They may be set or used even if you refuse analytics cookies.
On this website, the website's built-in consent banner stores your choice under the name shack_cookie_consent (and, as a fallback, in the browser's local storage under shack-cookie-consent) so your choice can be applied on later visits. It is stored for one year and is not gated by the banner.
2.2 Analytics cookies — Google Analytics 4
The only analytics service used or planned for this website is Google Analytics 4. Analytics cookies help us understand how visitors use the website so we can analyse site traffic and improve the site.
Analytics cookies are the only cookie category controlled by the consent banner. The banner is intended to prevent Google Analytics from loading and setting analytics cookies unless you consent to analytics.
We do not use advertising, marketing, or social-media cookies on this website.
3. Cookies used
| Cookie name | Category | Purpose | Provider | Default expiry |
|---|---|---|---|---|
shack_cookie_consent | Strictly necessary / essential | Records your cookie-banner choice so it can be applied on later visits | The website (built-in consent banner) | 1 year |
_ga | Analytics — gated by consent | Distinguishes unique users for Google Analytics | Google Analytics 4; first-party cookie on the website | 2 years by default |
_ga_ followed by the property's container ID | Analytics — gated by consent | Persists session state for the specific Google Analytics measurement/container ID | Google Analytics 4; first-party cookie on the website | 2 years by default |
(The full name of the second Google Analytics cookie consists of _ga_ followed by the property's container ID, which will be added when the Google Analytics property is connected.)
Payment is completed on Square's own systems through the invoice, so Square's payment-page cookies are governed by Square and are not set by our website.
Google Analytics cookie expiries can be changed in Google Analytics settings. Browsers may also apply shorter limits to first-party cookies; for example, Chrome may limit cookie lifespan to 400 days, and Safari may limit some script-set cookies to 7 days in certain circumstances. Actual expiry may therefore be shorter than the default shown above.
The user-level and event-level data-retention setting in our Google Analytics property is 2 months.
Cookie expiry is not the same as Google Analytics data retention. Data may be retained or used according to the property's configured retention setting and Google's applicable terms and settings.
4. How the consent banner works
When you visit the website, the consent banner lets you choose whether to allow analytics cookies.
- If you consent to analytics: the banner permits Google Analytics 4 to load and use its analytics cookies.
- If you refuse analytics: the banner blocks Google Analytics from loading and setting analytics cookies. Essential cookies needed for the website and its order-request form may still operate.
- If you do not make a choice: Google Analytics does not load and analytics cookies are not set. The banner remains available so you can choose later.
The banner controls the analytics cookie category, specifically Google Analytics 4. It does not control essential cookies, and we do not use advertising, marketing, or social-media cookies on this website.
Before you consent
Before you consent, the Google Analytics tag does not load on the website at all. No analytics cookies are set and no analytics data is sent. We do not use Google Consent Mode or cookieless pings.
5. Giving, changing, or withdrawing consent
You can give consent to analytics by selecting the analytics-consent option on the banner.
You can refuse analytics by selecting the refusal or essential-only option. Refusing analytics does not prevent essential cookies from being used where they are required for the website or its order-request form to function.
There is no separate consent-management tool and no separate cookie-settings page. You can later change or withdraw your analytics choice by using the cookie banner again: a "Cookie settings" link in the footer of every page re-opens the banner at any time.
When you withdraw consent, the website stops loading Google Analytics, removes its tag, and clears any existing Google Analytics cookies on subsequent pages or visits. Withdrawal does not automatically remove cookies already stored in your browser beyond what the banner clears; you can delete existing cookies using your browser settings, as explained below.
6. How consent choices are recorded
The website's built-in consent banner stores your choice in a first-party cookie (shack_cookie_consent) and, as a fallback, in your browser's local storage (shack-cookie-consent) so the website can apply it on later visits and avoid repeatedly asking you. The choice is stored for one year.
The consent record is limited to information needed to remember and demonstrate your choice: the selected choice and the time it was made.
Google Analytics must not load or set analytics cookies before the visitor consents, in accordance with the full-blocking configuration described in this Policy.
7. Managing or deleting cookies in your browser
Most browsers let you view, block, or delete cookies through their settings. You can usually search your browser's help menu for instructions on managing cookies.
If you delete cookies, you may also remove your saved consent choice and may need to choose again the next time you visit. Blocking essential cookies may affect the website or its order-request form.
Browser controls are separate from the website's consent banner. Refusing analytics through the banner is the way to apply your choice to Google Analytics on this website; deleting cookies in your browser can remove cookies already stored on your device.
8. Google Analytics and Google Ads
Google Analytics 4 is the only analytics or tracking service used or planned for this website. No advertising, marketing, or social-media cookies are used.
Our Google Analytics property is not linked to a Google Ads account. If it is linked to Google Ads in the future, additional advertising features or cookies may become available or be used. If that happens, we will review and update this Policy and the consent-banner configuration before using those features.
